Investing in People - 05 Oct 2000

Picture for Investing in People news

After a lot of hard work Cue and Review Recording Service has retained the Investors in People Standard - an indication of the priority we place on our staff and volunteers. Read some of the assessors comments.

Investors in People is the national Standard which sets a level of good practice for training and development of people to achieve 'business' goals. Achieving the Standard involves an organisation putting a lot of thought into the way it deals with people, changing some of its practices and formalising others. People are the pivot of everything we do at Cue and Review Recording Service.

Our auditor found that we demonstrated a sound approach to all processes that affect the Investors in People Standard and we passed in all areas.

Our particular strengths were noted as:

  • our flexibility and openness when it comes to identifying appropriate communication channels so we're quick to identify when a particular medium is not working effectively;

  • the priority we place on the planning process - evidenced by the documents we develop;

  • our enthusiasm for encouraging people to develop and learn new skills e.g. the support received by the 'Training for Work' and 'New Deal' participants;

  • our flexibility in ensuring that development opportunities and actions are designed to meet the range of needs and circumstances of those who work with us;

  • our use of evaluation practices to provide the organisation with extremely clear and useful information which is applied effectively to future planning and training activity.

The assessor suggested several areas which we might review in order to enhance our ability to meet our overall objectives. These were:

  • increasing cross team communication;

  • consideration of the impact on our review and evaluation processes that the loss of funding for the training and development officer post might have;

  • ensuring that success is celebrated throughout the organisation, not just with those who have been directly involved.
