Picture for Profile - Morag Mackay, Operations Director, Manager and Mountain Mover news

Why did Morag join Cue and Review in 1992 and what doesn't she do in the organisation? Does she prefer chocolate, malt or a good book? How does she know Jesus was a woman? Learn more about our Operations Director.

What motivated you to take an interest in a talking magazine service for the blind?

The need to earn a living, added to an interest in books and words, and experience in organising small scale fundraising (coffee mornings, flag days, house to house collections etc) on a voluntary basis led me to accept a part-time post as Assistant Fundraiser to Cue and Review Recording Service in May 1992

Where are your talents used at present?

Where are they not?! I am an Executive Director, I schedule volunteers and studio time, I present (mainly commercial work), edit and know the personalities of every machine in the building. I am the book keeper, "salesperson" on the commercial side, I order supplies from tapes to biscuits and I know where the green dots are kept! The relative importance of these skills depend on your point of view - personally I rate ensuring a supply of biscuits as quite high on the list! According to the "New Dealers" I am also a dead ringer for Anne Robinson.

Can you see yourself in any other role than the one you are in?

Retired, lazing in the sun with a good book in hand? I never envisaged the many roles I have filled in the organisation so wouldn't like to predict the future - leave that to Mystic Meg.

What is your most satisfying moment to date?

(After a stunned silence). Too many to choose from - helping to secure Investors in People status (and retaining it), helping to achieve Community Business of the Year for Dunbartonshire, helping to keep the doors open during some grim times and ensuring that our listeners still received their service. On a personal level - the achievement I most treasure is doing all this while raising my daughter to be a confident, independent, reasonably sensible woman and retaining my own sense of humour and justice.

What would you suggest has been your least satisfying experience to date?

???? Nope, nothing I choose to share.

Which is your preference - a bar of chocolate, a good malt or a good book?

What's wrong with having all three? And music and fresh flowers?

No one is naive enough to think that Cue and Review Recording Service is your only activity. What else are you involved in that you feel able to share with your colleagues.

I have been a Boys Brigade officer for the past 15 years and am currently acting Captain, Secretary of the Junior Committee, Member of the Executive and Training Committees of our Battalion - still it is just an hour a week they say!! I am also currently involved in setting up a Rent Deposit Guarantee Scheme for the local Homelessness Project. I am an active member of my Church and am currently organising a summer holiday for some of our older members. In what is left of my time, I am an avid reader (a weak spot for poetry).

Do you have any tips that you feel empowered to pass on to the team?

  1. Keep reading the notice boards and Morag's moans.

  2. Never say never.

  3. The sun rises in the east and sets in the west whether you worry about it or not.

Do you have a good joke (clean)?

No, but I have three pieces of evidence that Jesus was a woman.

  • S/he talked good sense but men wouldn't listen to him/her

  • S/he fed a multitude with two fish and a few rolls

  • Even when s/he had died and was hoping for a rest s/he had to get up as there was still work to be done.

What is your favourite singer or piece of music?

Depending on the mood, it could be Bruch, or Primal Scream , Dido or Dylan.

Are you Marks and Spencer or Next?

Harrods by inclination, New Look by income.

If Cue and Review had a motto what do you think it should be?

Would you be happy to listen to this?

What do you look for in a partner?

What makes you think I'm looking? What about honesty, humour and infinite wealth?
