From Seedcorn to Flourishing Listeners - 25 Aug 2005
Future Builders Scotland have awarded Cue and Review Print Speaking to the Blind a five thousand pounds Seedcorn grant that will enable the Glasgow based charity to provide a brand new CD duplicating service for visually impaired people
With funding from the Communities Scotland offshoot Cue and Review is able to ensure that it can accommodate those listeners who would rather receive their newspaper or magazine on compact disc rather than audio cassette. The funding will also enable the volunteer sound technicians to use the upgraded digital recording equipment in the three existing and the new fourth studio.
Speaking today Alastair McPhee Managing Editor of the Service said. This funding will enable visually impaired listeners to enjoy an even greater range of newspapers, magazines and Public Sector information. Most importantly however it will improve the morale of our Volunteers had been increasingly exasperated by ageing equipment.
Alastair went on to say however that what the funding had not achieved is the means to increase awareness of the existence of our service. We therefore are keen to see our friends in the media doing more to promote the existence of talking newspapers. We would also call upon our friends in the visual impairment teams to spread the word to their clients.
An information tape with all the titles on it can be obtained by phoning 0141- 563- 0306.
Note to Editors
