Multi Platform Approach from Scotland's Premier Transctiption Service - 24 Nov 2003

Picture for Multi Platform Approach from Scotland's Premier Transctiption Service news

Congratulation to the RNIB on the launch of viponair.com their radio station for and by blind people.

On a typical day our team of visually impaired and sighted volunteers arrive with their scripts in hand and head straight for one of our three studios, as soon as the title is completed it is added to our internet radio streaming broadcast. We are aware that not everyone can listen to programmes timed for the makers convenience so we also convert the title to mp3 format for downloading from the titles section of our website. This allows listeners to access the title at a time that suits them. Finally for those of our listeners who choose not to use new technology we are still distributing each title on audio cassette through the articles for the blind free post system. This ensures that as wide an audience as possible from Cumbernauld to California can access our full range by whichever method suits them best. .

Our multi-platform approach is still heavily dependant on trust, corporate and individual donations but we believe it is a cost effective service. Listeners now contribute 50 pence per week for the cassette service, can download their full title for just one pound a go, or listen free of charge to our streaming service.

If you wish to support our service you too can make one pound do the work of two. Simply log on to our web shop make your purchase from a range of well know retailers and for no extra cost to you we will receive at least 3 per cent of everything you buy, no other details about you are passed to us.

Streaming today is the Evening Times followed by Inside Soap, Radio Times (Scottish TV Listings), Empire Magazines, The Herald and Sunday Herald newspapers.
